C.R. Grampian Stock Coach Kits

65' 12 wheel "Grampian" corridor stock built 1904-5.

The prototypes of these coaches date from 1904/5 and were reputed to be the finest ever built by a Scottish railway for purely internal traffic. Initially the sets ex-Aberdeen were formed :-

BCK + BTK / BTK + CK + BTK
Edinburgh / Glasgow

The full thirds were used as strengtheners when required. Some of each diagram except D97 were dual fitted from new. Such rigidity of formation did not last long and these coaches were soon found on many parts of the system and south of the border on W.C.J.S. turns. Apart from a few accident victims and wartime withdrawals, general withdrawal started in about 1948 with the last going in 1955.

Caledonian Railway Coat of Arms

"Wha dare meddle wi' me" - a loose translation of the Scottish motto (nemo me impune lacessit, litterly meaning "no-one provokes me with impunity") which was appropriated along with the Scottish coat of arms (without any sanction from the Lord Lyon, King of Arms) by the Caledonian Railway Co.
